When I began searching for a "laptop" for my high-school age daughter, I quickly turned to notebooks for their affordability. The Samsung caught my eye, as I have owned numerous Samsung products in the past, and they have always been dependable.

Now, I am hardly a "techie," and my opinion is generally going to be formed on whether the thing does what I need it to (rather than its architecture). This machine (on those occasions when I can pry it away from my daughter) does everything I expected and does it as well or better than I need it to. It's fast, the battery life is exceptional, and it is solid in every respect. It has been in the hands of a teenager for almost two months now with no ill effects. This can hardly be said of anything else in my daughter's room.

Oh, and the XP operating system was a real plus. Vista stinks.

I own a 13" laptop (Dell M1330) that I had been using for travel. However, I found it too bulky to carry around. I read reviews on all the netbooks. I wanted something that was really portable; reasonably fast; had a good sized hard drive; but the real issue for me was the size of the keyboard. I have big hands and I wanted a keyboard I would be comfortable with. The Samsung NC10 is spectacular! The screen is big enough to work on; it is light; it is pretty--mine in blue; the keyboard took a little adjustment, but is reasonably comfortable (I read it was 95% of regular size); it is fast (I bought the Crucial 2 GB RAM for $25, although I'm not sure your really need it); its battery seems to last forever (actually somewhere between 4 and 6 hours). I also bought a mathcing blue logitech V470 cordless laser mouse, and the Caselogic neoprene sleeve. The nc10 is great to work on while in bed or watching TV...a joy to travel with... Complaints? Very easy to use, light weight enough to carry with me. With the 6cell battery, it lasts longer than the other 3cell batteries. I can go on-line and not worry about the computer loosing power. The speed with the 1gig ram was OK, but I wanted it a bit faster, so I put in a 2gig ram. Very easy to install (remove 1 screw and pop it in) I like it better with the extra speed. I would highly recommend this for anyone that is looking for a light weight notebook. This is a great overall product. I'm a college student so I needed a laptop that was very light, and this one is perfect. The keyboard is easy to get used too, the screen is very small though. I got used to the screen very fast and I don't mind the size because I really just wanted this computer for traveling to and from campus. The battery life is amazing, it could last for days. This is a great netbook. I did a bunch of research before settling on the Samsung NC10. Unfortunately, it is difficult to test netbooks in the stores as most do not carry a wide selection. I had narrowed down my search to the Lenovo Ideapad S10 (tried at Circuit City), MSI Wind and the Samsung. The Lenovo got tossed out because it only came with a 3 cell battery. Other than that, it felt like a quality machine with good keyboard, screen and overall build quality. Decided to take a shot with the Samsung and have not been disappointed. This is a great computer. I upgraded the memory to 2 gigs of Crucial RAM. Very easy to do and added a little pep to the machine, which was already fast. The keyboard is great and feels as close to a full size keyboard as your going to get. The webcam works great using Skype. I was able to get used to the trackpad after a couple of days, so I would not let that stop you from buying. Also, the single mouse button rocker bar works fine.
